Here is a beautiful and faithful replica of a globe originally made by the legendary cartographer Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594). Publishing his first terrestrial globe circa 1536, Mercator is credited with introducing new navigational concepts. This stunning globe was hand-crafted with techniques used in producing the originals, such as the 'gravure' printing process for sharp lines and symbols. Please note, this globe is not current; it is a 16th century replica. Paper and iron construction. Hand forged wrought iron Baroque floor stand. 42 1/4" high. 15 3/4" diameter.
